Die australische Band The Middle East mit dem Song »Blood« von ihrem Debütalbum »The Middle East« (2008). Die Band stammt aus Townsville in Queensland und hat 2008 ihr Debüt-Album veröffentlicht. Eine deutlich abgespecktere Version erschien Ende 2009 unter demselben Titel als EP in den USA. Die Songs der Band zeichnen sich vor allem durch ihre schönen melancholisch-lyrischen Texte aus. So z.B. aus »Blood«:
older brother, restless soul, lie down
lie for a while with your ear against the earth
and you’ll hear your sister sleep talking
say »your hair is long but not long enough to reach
home to me
but your beard
someday might be
In Australien hat die Band inzwischen einen hohen Bekanntheitsgrad erreicht, unter anderem durch ihre Auftritte bei den größten Musikfestivals des Kontinents und dadurch, das ihre Songs »Blood« und »The Darkest Side« häufig von den australischen Radiostationen gespielt wurden. Außerhalb Australiens sind sie noch ein Geheimtipp aber vermutlich nicht mehr allzu lange.
