Als ich zum ersten Mal Bilder des Amerikaners Joel Henriques sah, haben sie mir auf den ersten Blick gut gefallen. Da war irgendetwas das mich ansprach und fesselte. Ich wollte sehen, was er noch so gemalt hat und fand auf seiner Webseite folgendes Statement:

I’ve always been fascinated by color, shape and craftsmanship—the textures, technique, and hands-on care that can be seen in art. But what really interests me is connecting the painting to its viewer. It’s not only about design and color, or the representation of an object, but about developing an interaction between a painting and the person looking at it. The character and feeling that a piece conveys is important to me because it sparks the relationship between art and life. I want to give people something not only to look at, but to live with and be a part of.

Ich finde, das gelingt ihm ganz ausgezeichnet.

Übrigens, wer kleine Kinder hat oder öfter mal sein (kleines) Patenkind beschäftigen muss, der sollte unbedingt auch mal in Joels Blog »Made by Joel« schauen, wo er wunderbare Ideen präsentiert, wie man mit schlichten Mitteln Kinder zum phantasievollen Spielen anregen kann. Seine Ideen sind übrigens alle in der Praxis durch seine Zwillinge erprobt!
